Welcome to your next ranch vacation.
Resort: “One that affords aid or refuge… a place designed to provide recreation, entertainment, and accommodation”
If you are looking for a posh or bougie resort that offers such amenities as room service, massages, tennis courts, or saunas, this is not that type of resort. If you seek a reset for your mind, soul or spirit, or merely a break from stress and other distractions, then this “resort” may be a great ranch vacation.
We recommend that phones and devices be placed in a quiet drawer for your stay, however, many of us need to work remotely, or connect to the internet for a variety of needs. Each cabin comes with its own high speed internet modem.
You can be accommodated by a quiet relaxing coffee in the morning from a lakefront porch. The only alarm clock may be the sounds of geese, ducks or morning birds. You can relax in a climate-controlled home and enjoy the scenery. If you seek recreation and entertainment, consider fishing for bass or sunfish in the spring fed 20-acre private lake (no fishing license required) from a gazebo, two small piers, two paddleboats, or any human powered small craft you choose to bring. The west smaller section of the lake is a natural marsh area ideal for additional fishing, spotting a beaver, deer, wild pig, alligator and various birds. You can nature walk, run or bike on trails around the 300-acre ranch, except for the fenced pasture areas for longhorn cattle, horse and donkeys. Near the Longhorn house there is a trail leading to a small remote lake hidden in the woods. Along the path is a deer feeder. The ranch is a natural preserve that does not allow deer or bird hunting, which provides great wildlife spotting.
The quiet beauty of the ranch, and especially the interior craftsmanship for many of the homes, are attributed to Philanthropist Brooks Gremmels, who is credited with revitalizing Ben Wheeler. The same attention to detail he applied to his family / friend guest houses on the ranch, he applied to business in Ben Wheeler. The Butterfly & Cantina have interior custom wood work taken from trees on the ranch, and many of the of the interior decorations in all the homes were handmade by local artists around Ben Wheeler and Edom. If you want a 70’s flashback, the Dogwood cabin (AKA “Retro”), hidden in the lakefront trees, has wood paneling, orange countertops, yellow sink and green cabinets. We hope to continue to share with you a beautiful haven that Brooks invested in for his family and local friends.
The map address to the front gate is: 1995 Co Rd 4707, Murchison, TX 75778. Although the address shows Murchison, the ranch is just south of Ben Wheeler and 18 miles from Canton.
